Tropical Storm Fay Approaches Florida; Delays Probable - NEWS FLASH - Issue #225
August 18, 2008
Intermodal distribution has slowed throughout Southern Florida as Tropical Storm Fay has reached the Florida Keys, slowing transportation throughout the area as several rail yard terminals prepare for the potential hurricane. The primary concern for the storm is rain, as over 10 inches have been projected for the Keys and portions of South Florida, making flash flooding an emerging threat. Currently, all Quebecor World Logistics trucks are out for delivery but some delays are expected as many Intermodal shipments are being held on the cars in Jacksonville, Miami and Ft. Lauderdale terminals.
Over-the-rail Update
Florida East Coast Railway release:
FEC's Miami and Ft. Lauderdale ramp terminals will shut down today for ingate traffic at 3:00PM. Bowden will remain open today for ingate and outgate traffic.
Southbound intermodal traffic will move today with a cut off of 10:00AM, however, based on wind speed and gusts it may or may not unload from the flatcars at destination. There will be no
Ft. Lauderdale traffic moving south today. Once intermodal traffic is ingated, it is subject to being loaded onto flatcars and staged at various locations along the FEC. We cannot unload them once they are staged.
Southbound intermodal traffic will move to Ft. Pierce with a 5:00PM cut-off and Northbound with a 5:00PM cut-off.
Northbound intermodal traffic from Miami will have a cut-off of 3:00PM. No trains will move northbound after that departure.
Northbound intermodal traffic from Ft. Lauderdale will have a cut-off of 3:00PM. No trains will move northbound after that departure from Ft. Lauderdale.
Local manifest spotting and pulling of cars will continue until the weather mandates operations cease.
